Sauvignon Blanc That Speaks for Itself

Anyone who's traveled around Europe knows: a meal is not complete without a bottle of wine on the table. The legacy of Europe's long history with wine it that is it is viewed more as a staple than a luxury. There are prized vineyards and bottles to be sure, but a well-made and delicious wine is something accessible to nearly everyone. It’s as important and common as olive oil to the Italians, ham to the Spanish, and bread or cheese to the French.

It is the everyday-ness of wine that is too often lacking in the wine made here in the States; wine is viewed as elitist, put up on a pedestal, or reserved for special occasions. On the other side of the Atlantic, wine is what makes a meal civilized, humble origins or not. It is one of the ways that humans have discovered to express the beauty of our world, and foster joy and fellowship. In that sense, wine is not a luxury, because beauty, joy and fellowship are not luxuries, they are essential to what makes us human.

We import European wines because Europe remains the best place to find unique, well crafted, affordable wines to enjoy "on the regular." But I’ll also be the first to defend Oregon and Washington's robust wine industry. So... instead of continuing to lament the lack of local options for exciting, affordable everyday wines like we find in Europe... I decided to be part of the solution, and make the kind of wine I wanted to see here.

I started a small project to make a wine that embraces the beauty and joy of an everyday wine that was not out of reach, in any sense of the word. I didn't make much of this wine—just a couple hundred bottles—because like those small European producers, I believe in quality over quantity. It's called Aucun Commentaire.

Aucun Commentaire, French for No Comment, as in, No Comment necessary to enjoy this wine. Of course, part of what we do at CorskCru is tell a story focused on the winemakers, and the place they come from. You won’t read emails from us touting scores from major wine publication, or a convoluted absurdist-poetry tasting note. The wines we like are most often the ones that speak for themself, and we think this fits right in.

Here is everything you need to know: this is 100% Sauvignon Blanc, from the Columbia Valley. Sustainably farmed. Minimal intervention. Maximum flavor.

What does it taste like? Tropical flowers and stone fruit and sweet citrus. It is delicious and fresh and juicy - just the sort of wine I reach for when I want to make my day a little more civilized, brighten up my meal, or share something with friends. It is a beauty and a simple pleasure, made to be enjoyed without pretension. No more comments necessary.
