White wine bliss: La Paroisse Chardonnay

Domaine de La Paroisse has been a mainstay of our importing for years now. It’s not hard to see why - they embody the core of what we are searching for in a winemaker; Mom & Pop farmers, working their vineyards with care and attention, gifted with a remarkable history and vineyards, all resulting in expressive wines that over-deliver for the price. Above all, they are just plain Good People.

We have spilt plenty of digital ink over this special place, so I wont rehash all the remarkable details this time around. However, I will share with you my favorite ritual of visiting Domaine de la Paroisse.

After tasting through the barrels, and discussing the challenges and triumphs of the most recent vintage, Jean-Claude will switch gears, from the more detailed and technical aspects of his work, to the social and even hedonistic. It starts when he pours a chilled glass of his chardonnay, and we settle down at the table for a bite of saucison et fromage, the conversation moves on to current affairs or travels or family. His chardonnay is a beautiful way to get our appetite going for the hearty meal ahead of us, and never fails to put a big smile on everyone's face. It's Jean-Claudes way of reminding us, and himself, what his work is all about. In that moment, nothing is more welcome or more important than this golden liquid, shared with friends.

While not his focus, Jean-Claude continues to make this Chardonnay every year, just to put smiles on people faces. Production is minimal, but I got there in time this year to secure the last 10 cases for you. So, go ahead, grab a few bottles for the sunshine ahead, and put a smile on your face.

Every year, Jean-Claude produces a small quanity of this refreshing, easy drinking Chardonnay. He makes it in a 'naked' style — fermented in stainless steel tanks, no barrel, just loads of fruit and satiny richness to pull you in. Think bright yellow citrus, crisp autumn apples, and a pinch of salt. This is a ray of sunshine in a bottle, and a killer bottle for the money.
