Sixty for Sixty
Hey friends,
I turn 60 next year. And I’m not at all scared. After all…it’s just another birthday, right? Isn’t it important to live every day to its fullest? Do things like it will be your last time? Don’t leave anything on the table?
Sure. Whatever. Blah, blah, blah. I get all that stuff.
However, I still think it might be cool to mark the start of my 7th decade on this big blue marble by doing something awesome.
For nearly 35 years I’ve been given the pleasure of a career that blurred the line between work and play. It’s a gift that has permitted me to travel a lot, especially off the beaten path, and meet people that were unimaginable to me when I walked across the dais in 1985 to receive my high school diploma.
I’m not interested in becoming famous anymore, nor to find success that has to do with making a great fortune. Instead, I had the good luck of finding the thing I like to do, got pretty good at it, and found riches that weren’t monetary. And with apologies to Julia Child, Stan Lee, and Vera Wang–all who became famous and well-known in their 60’s — that’s not what I’m looking for out of my next decade.
Like Dicky Fox said to Jerry Maguire, “Hey, I don't have all the answers. In life, to be honest, I've failed as much as I've succeeded. But I love my wife, I love my life, and I wish you my kind of success.”
So, getting back to what I want for my birthday in 2027, with your help, I want to combine two of my three favorite things. Spending time with interesting people. And Travel.
If you’re reading along here you might already know these things about me. I’m pretty good with names and faces, and also at filing away places that have left an impression on me, for whatever reason. And now I’m asking you, as one of those names or faces, to join me in that same spirit.
I’m looking at Sixty for Sixty. That’s right — I want to travel with sixty of you during my sixtieth year. It’s that simple.
Sebastien and I have started this company called Cur Non Travel. Cur Non means “why not” in Latin and sums up the orthodoxy of how we’ll do our tours. If an opportunity is out there, let’s do it.
Why not?
There are already 20 people signed up to travel with us in 2027. And in service of tempting 40 more of you, here’s the where and when on all of the trips we’ve scheduled for next year:
APRIL 2027 ~ Portugal and Madeira over 8 days. Four spots left on this one.
MAY 2027 ~ Sorry. We’re already booked for a private, custom tour.
JUNE 2027 ~ Two spots left for a weeklong jaunt along the Rooftop of Italy. Who wants ‘em? Aosta, Mont Blanc, Switzerland, Sudtirol and more.
SEPTEMBER 2027 ~ Something for travelers seeking lots of movement. An ACTIVE, coast-hugging, Hiking Tour of Brittany that Sebastien and I will co-host together, starting in Paris and traveling by train and on foot for 8 days.
OCTOBER 2027 ~ A tour of France’s Grand Est–Champagne, Alsace, and Luxembourg. There’s a lot to see and do on this trip, and just following harvest time, it should be one of the great food and wine excursions of the year.
NOVEMBER 2027 ~ A Mediterranean Island-hopping Tour in search of food, olive oil and wine (and sunshine) in Sicily, Sardinia, and Crete.
You can read about any of the tours by following the links above. You’ll find lots of further details there, including dates, the cost, and other details.
Or, you can email me at hello@curnontravel.com to get a conversation going.
And no matter what, in 2028 you can be sure that I’ll try to make it Sixty-One for Sixty-One.
Happy Travels!
Dan
