I like to think of myself as a go-getter, someone who is always attacking the next thing. I started off the new year as such--with my head up, a positive outlook, and lots of plans. But as the old Yiddish adage goes, “Man plans, God laughs.”
There are a lot of things that impact our plans, and everything you have read in the news about how complex it is to be a small business is true. No one is immune to the ripple effects of the decisions about trade coming from the top. It's not just those of us involved in import/export. None of us are untouchable. And with the latest threats of tariffs on European goods (again) in the headlines, it has us newly planting our palms to our foreheads, yet still planning ahead.
With all that's been going on, and all our moving parts, we think we've earned a break. You know, maybe just to take a minute to breathe and have a look at where we are?
In the near term, we have a sizable load of wine from France arriving in about a month (tariffs, what tariffs?), including some delicious new additions to our portfolio that we tasted back in January. The result is that we’re facing a bit of a space crunch. So before we step away for a few weeks, we need to do a little tidy-up. We'll have plenty of opportunities for you to stop by the warehouse in the coming weeks. Then, starting about the 3rd week in June, we’re going to take a bit of a breather (fine, a vacation of sorts) and step away from the warehouse for a few weeks. We’ll reset, reorganize, and recalibrate in order to get ready for the second half of the year, and take a bit of time to game out some new projects too!
We'll be back sometime after July 4th with some great stories, some fresh wine, and a renewed positive outlook.
