Trentodoc: The Sparkling wines you’ve been asking for
Mario Esposito is a man on a mission: Inform, educate, and convert everyone who will listen, into Trentodoc disciples.
This past May, Mario made a 3-day stop in Portland as part of a tour around the US to promote Trentodoc, the sparkling wine appellation in Northeastern Italy. He hosted masterclasses and tasting events, then spent several days meeting and tasting with you, the Cru Faithful.
Dan and I were already thoroughly convinced about the outstanding quality of the Corvée wines. They have quickly become our favorite go-to bottles from Italy. And from the reactions and comments we got about these wines, we think you might agree. So when we finally got to open up the Corvée Trentodocs, well, that was just the icing on the cake.
1) Corvée Trentodoc Brut
The flagship sparkling wine in the Corvée lineup. 100% Chardonnay grown at 550m on the terraced slopes of the Cembra Valley. Aged 36 months on lees for textural richness, and a delicate toasty aroma. In Champagne, a wine like this would set you back north of $60, and still wouldn’t have the freshness and and complexity on the nose.
2) Corvée Trentodoc Brut Rosé
This delicate salmon-pink rosé, made from Pinot Nero and Chardonnay, is a playful combination of delicate strawberry, red currents, almond and pastry crust. 36 months aging on lees for a rich texture and fine, persistent bubbles.
3) Opéra Trentodoc Brut
When I asked Mario about getting some of this, his reply was “No, this wine is not for export.”
“But Mario, we just poured it for everybody. They loved it! Surely you can find a few bottles for us.”
“I will think about it,” was all he replied.
He did think about it, and I’m happy to say he did find a few bottles. This is a special wine - 100% mountain grown chardonnay, aged for 5 years on the lees before disgorging! My tasting note just says "Wow" No further commentary needed.
